Area Agency on Aging – home delivered meals will continue

While the government shutdown has caused some area senior centers to stop serving lunches for now.

What about home delivered meals?

Charlotte Foust with the Joplin Area Agency on Aging tells Newstalk KZRG:

“Our home delivered meals program is going to continue. That is not going to stop. So if someone is already receiving home delivered meals from the Area Agency on Aging, they are going to continue to receive those meals. It is only the meals in our senior centers that’s going to be on pause for a while.”

According to Foust:

“Starting on Monday, October 27th, we will be stopping meal services at four of our six senior centers. The City of Neosho is going to continue funding the meals at our Neosho Senior center through November 7th. And then we have some private donors who will be funding the meals out of our Barton County Senior center through Nov. 14. But that leaves Joplin, Webb City, Carl Junction, and Carthage without lunch in those centers for the indefinite future.”
