Foresters: Missouri Drought Impacting Fall Colors

(Missourinet) – This year’s drought is impacting the annual fall tree color show in Missouri.

It’s been so dry that some trees have already gone dormant, before hitting their peak color. Foresters say, however, other trees will still have vibrant color, including sugar maples, dogwood, tulip poplar, mulberry, and elm. The Missouri Department of Conservation is recommending several places to check out fall colors, including:

Trail of Tears State Park, Magnolia Hollow Conservation Area, Apple Creek Conservation Area, General Watkins Conservation Area, Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, & Johnson Shut-Ins State Park

Updated fall color reports can be found on the Missouri Department of Conservation’s website, mdc.mo.gov.
