MSSU preps for homecoming parade in downtown Joplin

It’s homecoming week for the Missouri Southern Lions!
The parade in downtown Joplin will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m.
It will run along Main Street from 3rd-6th Streets.
Jesse Brower, interim director of student activities, tells Newstalk KZRG that it’s all about community engagement.
“It’s just going to get a lot more people involved that maybe otherwise wouldn’t have come out for the parade if it was across town on campus. I know that we have over 50 floats registered, so it’s going to be a really big, really awesome parade. We’ve got several bands playing, and it’ll be a really, really good time. So people should definitely come out and see everything that we’ve got to offer.”
All float entries must be decorated according to this year’s theme of “Once Upon A Pride.”
Cash prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively will be awarded to the top three community organizations with the best floats.
Kickoff for the MSSU home football game against Missouri Western State University will be at 2 p.m. with the winners of the float contest announced during halftime.
