Aurora man dies while trying to elude police

A 74-year-old man from Aurora, Missouri, was killed when he crashed his vehicle while trying to elude police officers.
Authorities say on the afternoon of October 18, Gary Bowman was intoxicated and threatening to “skin” patrons at a local business.
When they tried to speak with him, he fled in his vehicle, driving erratically.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop as Bowman continued north on Highway K at a high rate of speed, failing to maintain his lane of travel.
Approximately three miles north of Aurora, Bowman left the roadway and struck a tree.
Due to the extensive damage to the vehicle, officers had difficulty extricating Bowman but were ultimately successful.
Officers immediately began CPR and provided lifesaving measures until medical personnel arrived.
Bowman was transported from the scene by ambulance.
Despite efforts to save his life, Bowman later succumbed to his injuries.
