Man in custody after firing a handgun in the direction of others

On Monday, October 13 at about 9:30 p.m., Newton County Deputies were dispatched to the Hillside Estates Manufactured Housing Community at 11319 Hwy FF in reference to a call of gunshots.

The deputies discovered there had been a disturbance between multiple people at one of the residences. During the disturbance a male drew a handgun and fired several rounds in the direction of others involved.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Neighbors reported seeing the shooter run into another residence. The Newton County Special Response Team responded and approximately two hours later the male surrendered himself to deputies without any further incident.

Montana S. Lansaw, 22, of Joplin is currently in custody at the Newton County Jail.

A request for a charge of 1st Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action has been forwarded to the Newton County Prosecutor for consideration of formal charges.
