Coffeyville teen dies after fatal crash following police pursuit

A teenage girl from Coffeyville, Kansas, has died after a crash during a police pursuit last week.

It all began in Owasso, Oklahoma, on Friday after calls of shoplifting.

The chase headed north, sometimes surpassing speeds of 100mph on Highway 169.

It ended in Coffeyville, Kansas, when the suspect’s vehicle failed to yield at an intersection and slammed into an SUV.

15-year-old Serefina O’Connell was a passenger in that SUV and died at a hospital on Monday.

Coffeyville Public Schools say counselors and support staff will continue to be available at school in the days ahead to provide care and support to students and staff as we process this loss together.

The suspect, 38-year-old Tenisha D. Mayberry, of Blue Springs, Missouri, faces several charges.
