At tonight’s Joplin city council meeting, the Joplin Chamber of Commerce will give a report.

Mayor Keenan Cortez tells KZRG some of the items that will be in the report:

We always love getting our updates from the Chamber of Commerce. They’re going to bring some good stuff to us tonight. It’s not only going to be a chamber update, but it’s going to be a MoKan, which is a Missouri Kansas Collaborative for Economic Development. They’re going to come to us with some really cool things.”

Cortez went on to say:  “Some of the things that you’ll hear tonight is the new population. People are wondering, what’s the population of Joplin, Missouri? It’s 53,095 people. Is the population as of, you know, 2024, the last numbers that we’ve got, we have a 4.6% unemployment rate, which is below the national average. The average earnings per job in this area is $60,000.”
