Former Neosho school counselor gets five years for child sex crime

A former Neosho elementary school counselor has been given a five-year prison sentence for committing child sex crimes.
41-year-old Jacob Oakes admitted to his conduct, specifically stating he had intercourse with an individual that was under 17 years of age.
Court documents claim that Oakes sexually assaulted the girl on multiple occasions, beginning in 2021, when she was 14-years-old. The encounters then continued through at least once in 2024.
The mother of the child left her at Oakes’ home so she could take another child for medical treatment.
Oakes was placed on leave and then fired when school officials were made aware of the police investigation.
