Missouri’s Top Election Official Says State Would See Little Impact from Trump’s Mail-In Voting Ban

As President Donald Trump signals he may sign an executive order banning mail-in voting, Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins says the move would have little impact on the state.

Hoskins, a fellow Republican, explains that Missouri does not automatically send ballots to all registered voters; it only allows absentee voting by mail with a valid excuse.

Hoskins told Newstalk KZRG: “If you want to vote by mail here in Missouri, you would have to have a valid excuse that you’ll be out of the county on that day. Then the local election authority, the county clerk, would mail you an absentee ballot. You would fill out that ballot. It would have to be notarized by a notary, and then either you or next of kin would have to submit that back to the election authority. You can do that by mail.”

While Missouri has already banned ballot drop boxes, Secretary Hoskins warns that their use in other states has opened the door to widespread fraud—an issue he says underscores the importance of maintaining secure and accountable voting practices.
