Pedestrian killed when truck rolls backward in Barry County

An 81-year-old pedestrian is dead after an accident involving a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck in Barry County.

It happened Thursday afternoon on Missouri-Z about 3 miles east of Monett.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the man was killed when he exited the pickup and was standing behind it when it rolled backward, striking him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:25 p.m. yesterday by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen.

It was SW Missouri Troop D’s 80th fatality for 2025.
