Missourians facing major car-buying changes

Buying a car in Missouri is going to be a little different soon.

A new law requires buyers to pay sales tax when they buy the vehicle. No more temporary tags either.

Department of Revenue Director Trish Vincent says it’s a way to recover uncollected taxes….

Vincent said:  “Several million dollars out there that it’s driving around on our roads where they should have paid sales tax and they haven’t.”

The state expects to roll out the new system late next year or early 2027.
