$191 million dollar proposed Joplin budget – Why so big?
City Manager Nick Edwards told Newstalk KZRG it is a busy time of the year for Joplin:
“It’s budget season for us here at the city. It’s an annual task that we do every year, and we put forward plans for the upcoming fiscal year and the things we want to accomplish. And our budget is coming in at about $191 million in total expenditures. That is a reduction from past years of about $22 million. But we’re still going to be able to accomplish some great things this year.”
Why is budget so big?
Joplin City Manager Nick Edwards tells Newstalk KZRG:
“The city’s a large organization. We provide many different services and programs and projects. And so, you know, the main drivers for the city are obviously those core services, your police and your fire department. We have a building and parks and you name it. There’s a lot of different services that we provide. And we’re also still in the middle of a historic time with some of the federal funding opportunities that have been available. And so we’re continuing to do a lot of great projects for the community.”
Public budget work sessions will be coming over the next several weeks.
