Carter to state tax commission “stop weaponizing against locally elected officials”

The Missouri state tax commission has tried to bully some county assessors into raising the assessed valuations of homes,
State senator Jill Carter wants to keep the commission but stop the treatment against county assessors.
“But for them to use their power to weaponize it against our locally elected officials, that’s a no go. I would say that there is an important role for them to play, you want your assessments to somewhat be up where if you were to purchase your home again, you could get compensated.”
Carter went on to say: “So if there’s a disaster, FEMA looks at the, at those assessment values to say, okay, we’re going to reimburse you this much for your home if there was a, like I said, a catastrophe. So you don’t want those under, you don’t want your home to be undervalued. You just don’t want to be over taxed.”
