Longtime Joplin Police Officer J.D. Love dies

Longtime Joplin Police Officer J.D. Love has died.

He was a leader in Joplin’s African American community.

Love, who spent nearly 30 years on the police force, was recognized in 2024 dedication to the community with the unveiling of the JD Love Way in East Joplin.

After his time on the police force, Love spent two terms as county coroner and spent 10 years and the St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

Love was 88 years old.
