Why are Joplin Public Pools closing early this year?

The Joplin public pools are closing early this year.  

Cunningham closed Sunday and Schiffedecker closes this Sunday.

Joplin Mayor Keenan Cortez told Newstalk KZRG why”:

“The last couple of years we’ve been extremely fortunate to be able to open both of our pools. Cunningham and Schifferdecker. This year school is about to take back up in session in the month of August. Kids are getting those last minute family vacations in. They’re getting prepared to go back to school. A lot of our college students are leaving and getting ready to go back to campus and get enrolled in college.”   

Cortez went on to say: “So our workforce has dwindled some. So as a result of that, we’ve had to react, which means we’re with Cunningham park closed yesterday (Sunday) was its last day and Schifferdecker is going to close this coming Sunday as its last day. And it’s just all in preparation. Returning back to school.”
