Hawley pushing for rebates for “working class” Americans

MISSOURINET – U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is pushing for “working class” Americans to get rebate checks that would come out of tax revenue being created by President Trump’s tariffs on overseas goods. Hawley’s bill calls for every adult and child to get a 600-dollar check, meaning that a family of four would get a total of 24-hundred dollars:
“President Trump’s tariffs are bringing in $150 billion this year,” Hawley said.
“That is an incredible amount of money. He deserves a tremendous amount of credit for pursuing these trade deals for getting this increased revenue, and it sends a terrific signal, a terrific message to working people that we are with them.”
Kiplinger.com reports that full rebate checks would go to individuals making under 75-thousand dollars a year, to heads of households making less than 112-thousand-500, and to couples filing joint tax returns under 150-thousand a year.
Smaller rebate checks would go to those earning more, with high earners getting zero.
Opponents say that tariff rebate checks would enlarge the federal budget deficit and that revenues from tariffs should go towards paying down the national debt.
