7th Street natural gas pipeline installation project this week

Chase Randolph, a Joplin traffic control technician and supervisor, talked with NewsTalk KZRG’s Ted Bojorquez about the natural gas pipeline installation on 7th Street in Joplin.

In a synopsis of the interview he said, “This construction project involves installing natural gas pipelines between South Park Street and Patterson Street in Joplin. Work will be conducted by a single crew of 3-4 people starting in the westbound lanes and moving to eastbound lanes.

“It’s scheduled through Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM with potential delays during these hours, and is expected to be completed by Friday with road repaving, though the 2-week permit allows for an extension into next week if needed, but no weekend work is anticipated.

“Forest Avenue is closed on both north and south sides with detour routes in place for affected traffic. Drivers are advised to drive slowly through the area rather than completely avoid it, but the new traffic pattern implemented increases the need for caution around workers entering and exiting work zones.

“Light machinery will be used including backhoes, mini excavators, and bucket trucks – no heavy machinery will be needed.  The work is exclusively natural gas pipeline installation with no additional construction activities.”
