One man in custody following shooting incident, police chase in Crawford County
No injuries reported
One man is in custody following a Friday-afternoon shooting incident in the 300 block of Brunetti Drive in McCune, Kansas and and a subsequent police chase, according to Crawford County Sheriff Danny Smith.
On February 16, at approximately 4:09 hours, the Crawford County Sheriff’s office started receiving calls about shots being fired at a residence with at least one person being reported as shot.
Sheriff Smith says upon arrival, Deputies discovered that several shots had been fired at the residence but no one had been shot.
An ongoing dispute between two people known to each other led up to the shooting. It was reported that two vehicles had pulled up to the residence, words were exchanged, and that someone began shooting at the direction of the people outside of the residence.
Bullet holes were found in the residence along with people along with three vehicles parked there. The suspect vehicles fled the scene with one person at the scene giving chase with the vehicle the suspected shooter was in.
Approximately 10 minutes later, the suspect vehicle was located eastbound from K-7 Hwy. on K-126 Hwy. A pursuit ensued with the suspect vehicle that eventually stopped at 530 Ave. and 200th St.
Four individuals were arrested and were transported to the Crawford County Jail. Three of the four were released. The fourth, identified as Jim Dodd, 20, of Baxter Springs, remained in custody awaiting booking.
The incident is still under investigation. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
