Joplin teachers to train in ‘Eureka Math’

The focus was on Mathematics at the Joplin Board of Education meeting Monday night.
The Board approved a plan to send 44 teachers and up to eight principals to a three-day training session on “Eureka Math” this summer. Joplin R-8 assistant superintendent for Learning Services, Doctor Steve Gilbreth, says the program helps students in ways other methods couldn’t. “It really gives kids this ability to decompose numbers and to then compose numbers understanding number-sense base ten, number-sense fractions, and it gives them multiple ways to solve any one problem.”
The total cost for the training is $24,000. That represents a 50 percent cost discount.
