Missouri State Representative Anthony Ealy won re-election handily to his Grandview-area House seat on Tuesday.
By Wednesday he was taken to jail.
Ealy, 32, was charged Thursday with fourth-degree assault and disturbing the peace, according to the Jefferson City Police Department.
Police responding to a disturbance call near East Capitol Avenue say they found Ealy yelling outside a business and that he threatened a couple.
According to the police report, Ealy made a reference to a gun before telling the husband, "I'm going to kill you."
The report also says Ealy had allegedly done something similar the previous night and appeared to be experiencing a panic attack or mental health crisis when officers arrived.
He is being held the Cole County Jail with no bond.
Ealy won re-election with 68% of the vote on Tuesday.
