In the early morning hours of October 22, 2026, a Sarcoxie Police Department officer was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing multiple traffic violations and a rear-lighting malfunction.
During the contact, the driver displayed suspicious movements, and the officer observed what appeared to be a firearm inside the vehicle under the driver's leg.
The driver then fled, leading the officer on a pursuit marked by dangerous driving, attempts to strike the patrol vehicle, and high speeds exceeding 80 mph.
The pursuit ended at Beagle Bay RV Campground, where the suspect drove into the property at a high rate of speed. Due to the risk posed to residents and surrounding area, the officer slowed though losing sight of the vehicle.
A multi-agency perimeter was established with assistance from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Jasper County Sheriff's Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
A drone search was conducted, and officers later located the suspect's vehicle parked beside a camper at a lot in the campground.
Officers attempted contact, but no one exited or responded. Without certainty of the suspect being inside, and for the safety of surrounding residents and law enforcement, officers withdrew.
Further investigation revealed the identity of the driver as Levi Allen Joles. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Efforts to locate Joles continue.
