A Riverton High School employee has been fired — and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct.

While a letter to families didn't specify his name Friday, records from their Thursday meeting show that board members terminated the employment of Justin McKee, effective immediately.

Superintendent Kevin Cooper said the district immediately launched an internal investigation and notified the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Department for Children and Families.

Again, while the board records confirm McKee's termination, the district has not confirmed whether his dismissal is connected to the misconduct investigation.

McKee is listed as a Riverton Middle School teacher and associated with Riverton High School's strength and conditioning program.

Cooper said the law enforcement investigation remains active and the district is cooperating with authorities.

The district has not disclosed whether students were involved, when the alleged misconduct occurred, or when administrators first received the allegations.

Cooper said the district remains committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for students.
