A Newton County man is in custody after deputies raided a Granby home Wednesday afternoon, seizing meth, a loaded firearm and suspected drug distribution equipment.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office says its newly formed Special Enforcement Group identified a residence at 1227 Fir St. as a suspected drug distribution location.
At 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, the sheriff's Special Response Team, Granby police and members of the Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at the property.
Deputies encountered three people in the backyard, including homeowner James Bettes, who allegedly had a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in his pocket.
Investigators subsequently discovered another baggie containing approximately 33 grams of suspected methamphetamine near where Bettes was detained.
Inside the residence, deputies reported finding a loaded firearm, digital scales and empty baggies — items investigators say were recovered during the narcotics investigation.
Bettes was arrested and transported to the Newton County Jail.
A second man, identified as Roberto Consecu, was also taken into custody on an immigration detainer and transported to the jail.
Authorities did not identify the third person encountered at the property.
The sheriff's office has submitted proposed charges of possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon against Bettes to the Newton County Prosecutor's Office for review.
