Cattle groups warn southwest Kansas ICE raids could disrupt beef supply

Three major cattle groups are warning the recent ICE enforcement raids across southwest Kansas and neighboring states are disrupting the beef supply chain and could eventually push prices higher.
The Kansas Livestock Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and Texas Cattle Feeders Association say thousands of cattle shipments have been delayed, costing producers millions of dollars.
The groups also report worker shortages at feedyards, dairies, processors and transportation hubs.
The warning comes as ICE operations have swept through southwest Kansas, including the Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal areas.
The cattle groups say they support enforcing immigration laws but argue the raids are also having a “massive chilling effect” on legal, documented workers and could ultimately lead to higher beef prices.
