Man Facing Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Drug Charges in Cherokee County

COLUMBUS, Kan. — A 45-year-old man faces felony charges in southeast Kansas after deputies arrested him late Tuesday night for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies booked Jason Elmer Zwahlen into the Cherokee County Detention Center in Columbus just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Along with the assault allegation, jail records show Zwahlen is held on suspicion of possessing stimulants, possessing hallucinogenic drugs, and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Deputies processed Zwahlen under booking number 2026-00948.

Formal charges and bail terms remain subject to review by the Cherokee County Attorney’s Office before an initial court appearance.
