Tradition, Thrills, and Giving Back: 83rd Lamar Free Fair Closes Out Stellar Week Blistering afternoon heat, icy snow cones, and a downtown square that transformed into a glowing night of spins on the Zipper and views from the top of the Ferris wheel—the 83rd Lamar Free Fair closed out a packed, trouble-free week on Saturday night.
While daytime temperatures climbed across the Four States, fairgoers kept their cool with sweet treats, cold drinks, and plenty of hometown spirit. One of the most popular daytime attractions was the dunk tank, where Domanee stayed on duty through the afternoon sweltering, happily taking splash after splash every time an accurate throw triggered the target.
Local tradition remained front and center all week, anchored by the Lamar Metro Club BBQ stand. Serving the fair for 81 years, the pit once again drew steady lines of hungry visitors. Metro Club representative Mr. McCoy emphasized that the proceeds from every barbecue plate go straight back into Barton County. Funds raised this year will benefit Lamar High School athletics, Barton County Salvation Army initiatives, local Shop with a Cop programs, and Metro Club student scholarships. Despite large crowds packing the downtown square throughout the multi-day event, officials reported an orderly celebration.

Over at the Lamar Police Department outreach tent, Diane told NewsTalk KZRG that the week was exceptionally peaceful, adding that officers saw "not one bit of trouble" from start to finish.
Once the sun dipped below the horizon each evening, the fair grounds came alive under the carnival lights. Families filled the streets for classic midway rides and games, putting the finishing touches on another memorable chapter in the fair's long-running local history.
