A Springfield woman faces a felony charge after her passenger was killed in a horrific crash early Sunday morning in Christian County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Alyssa Hope Vanorsdel was driving west on Highway, about three miles south of Rogersville, when the car struck a mailbox around 4 a.m.

Troopers say a 25-year-old Ozark woman was partially outside the vehicle when she was hit by the mailbox.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The patrol has not publicly identified the victim.

Vanorsdel was arrested about an hour and a half after the crash on suspicion of felony driving while intoxicated resulting in the death of another person.

She was taken to the Christian County Jail and has since been released, according to the patrol’s online arrest report.
