A big box store corporation's Foundation will provide a financial "shot in the arm" for CARS - a local service for people who need rides.

Thursday in Joplin, Arvest Bank employees gathered with workers from the Community Action Ride System to celebrate a $10,000 grant from the Arvest Foundation.

A few weeks ago, the Economic Security Corporation announced a significant funding cutback would directly effect the CARS program.

CARS uses volunteer drivers, reimbursed for their mileage, to provide free rides to people without transportation in the Joplin metro.

A funding cutback of about 60 percent had been anticipated for 2027.

The funds will be used to help keep the Joplin-area transportation program up and running.
