A Newton County man is accused of intentionally starting a fire inside an apartment.
Police say Cameron Crow walked out of the apartment Sunday and said "I started the fire".
He was booked into the Newton County Jail on a recommended charge of first-degree arson following the fire on Coler Street.
Neosho police and firefighters responded after a 911 caller reported that her brother had intentionally started a fire inside the apartment.
When officers arrived, all occupants had safely evacuated the building.
The Neosho Fire Department determined the fire originated in a trash can inside Crow's bedroom. The flames damaged items around the trash can but did not spread to the structure.
Family members told investigators Crow had isolated himself in his bedroom before the fire and refused to open the door.
After he came out, they smelled smoke and discovered the fire burning inside the room. One family member called 911 while another attempted to put out the flames with water.
Another witness told investigators Crow had been drinking alcohol earlier that morning and had been pacing through the apartment. According to the probable cause statement, when told to get some sleep, Crow replied, "I can't. I keep hearing voices again."
