A man from Carl Junction, accused of fleeing police, was seriously injured after his vehicle left the road and hit a tree near the Missouri-Oklahoma state line.

The crash happened Sunday night near Stateline Road and East 94 Road in Newton County during a pursuit involving the Seneca Police Department.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was attempting to flee law enforcement when it went off the road and struck a tree. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve before the crash.

The driver, identified as Alexander Jeffreys, of Carl Junction, suffered serious injuries.

He was taken from the scene and later flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital.

Jeffreys was arrested but released to medical personnel because of the severity of his injuries.
