Missouri Supreme Court again upholds new congressional map
What do you think?
Missouri's new congressional map has withstood another legal challenge.
This time from the NAACP, who argued that no extraordinary circumstances existed for Gov. Mike Kehoe to call lawmakers into a special session on redistricting last year.
State attorneys contended that's irrelevant, because governors have broad discretion for special sessions.
A unanimous decision from justices says "the plain language of the constitution – based on the definition of 'extraordinary' since the constitutional provision was adopted – gives the governor broad authority to determine when and for what purpose to call an extraordinary session outside the legislature’s regular sessions."
The Supreme Court had already rejected two other challenges to a new U.S. House map that gives Republicans an improved chance to win another seat by reshaping a Democratic-held district based in Kansas City.
