On February 28, 2026, Sgt. Kuhlman with the Neosho Police Department was patrolling the area of South Lafayette Street when he located a suspicious motorcycle in front of a residence at 500 South Lafayette Street.

The motorcycle, a black, spray-painted sport bike, missing several plastic components, prompted further investigation.

As Sgt. Kuhlman returned to the location, a male subject was observed pushing the motorcycle toward the side of the residence.

The male, a 32-year-old from Neosho known to have multiple active warrants, fled into the residence and then out the back door when Sgt. Kuhlman attempted to detain him.

A foot pursuit continued through several yards toward Hamilton Street. During the pursuit, a nearby citizen encountered the male in their backyard and safely assisted by taking him to the ground, allowing officers to maintain visual contact. The Neosho Police Department is appreciative of this citizen’s quick and safe assistance.

Additional officers responded to the area. Officer Bailey located the male hiding underneath a truck in the 400 block of Hamilton Street, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

A check of the motorcycle’s VIN revealed it to be a 2017 Honda, reported stolen out of Joplin, Missouri, on September 24, 2025.

The male was booked into the Newton County Jail. Additional charges are being forwarded for review to the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office for Tampering 1st Degree and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing.
