The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is seeking a 7-day public comment period for an amendment to the 2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

The TIP contains transportation and transit projects in the Joplin Metropolitan Area that are partially funded by Federal transportation programs, or are regionally significant, over a four-year period.

The proposed TIP Amendment 3 containing one (1) new project (15HS-26), and the removal of one (1) project (41HS-24) was requested by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). The new project to be added is to add lanes on I-44 from Main Street to Range Line in Joplin.

The proposed TIP Amendment 3 can be viewed on the JATSO website: Transportation Improvement Program | Joplin, MO - Official Website

The public comment period for this amendment begins at 9 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and concludes at 12 noon, Thursday, February 26, 2026. Comments on the amendments can be submitted to Robert Lolley by phone at 417-624-0820 extension 1514 or by e-mail at rlolley@joplinmo.org.

This public notice, public involvement activities, and time established for public review and comments on the TIP will satisfy the FTA Section 5307 Program of Projects requirements for the Metro Area Public Transit System (MAPS).

If you are in need of disability related auxiliary aids or services, contact the City of Joplin’s ADA Coordinator at 624-0820, Ext. 1210, or the City Clerk’s Office at 624-0820, Ext. 1220.  Kindly give forty-eight (48) hours notice to arrange for the aids or services. TTD Number (417) 625-4774.

Interpreter services are also available if requested at least seven calendar days in advance of the meeting.

Servicios de interpretación están disponibles si se piden al menos 7 días antes de la reunion.

JATSO is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Joplin region. Federal legislation requires an MPO for any urbanized area with a population of over 50,000. MPOs ensure that existing and future transportation projects and program expenditures are based on a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive planning process.
