SEK jury finds man guilty of double murder

A jury in Cherokee County Kansas has found a man from guilty of double murder.

On January 9, 2026, a Cherokee County Jury found Kyle Butts guilty on 2 counts of First Degree Murder, 1 count of Attempted First Degree Murder, and 1 count of Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer.
Butts has been in the Cherokee County Jail on charges in relation to a double homicide that occurred within the city limits of Baxter Springs back in November 2022.
During the incident a third victim was also shot and transported to the hospital where he later recovered from his injuries.
The jury deliberated for approximately five hours, before returning a guilty verdict on all charges.
