Burlison: Buying Greenland would be 'potentially the greatest deal in 200 years'
What do you think?
Should the United States buy out Greenland?
Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison told the KZRG Morning Newswatch that we should!
"I'm a small government kind of guy, but would be the greatest deal in like 200 years. Maybe it would be the second greatest deal next to, or maybe the third, next to Louisiana Purchase and the purchase of Alaska."
He says the benefits to the United States would be "immense based on where Greenland sits for national security or for global trade routes and the natural resources that are there."
Burlison emphasized that the cost would be “insanely cheap” compared to traditional land purchases.
Reuters reports that U.S. officials have discussed sending lump sum payments to Greenlanders as part of a bid to convince them to secede from Denmark and potentially join the United States.
While the exact dollar figure and logistics of any payment are unclear, U.S. officials, including White House aides, have discussed figures ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 per person, said two of the sources, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
