Joplin citizens are now encouraged to download a new, FREE and anonymous crime tip app called “JoplinPD” – powered by Tip411.

To download the app, just visit your app store by searching for “Joplin PD”. You can also scan the accompanying QR code to open the app.

If you don’t want to download the app, you can also easily text tips to Joplin Police by sending messages to 847411. In your message, type the unique keyword “JOPLINPD,” a space, and then your tip information.

You may get text messages back from officers seeking to learn more information about the crime you are reporting, but remember, it’s all anonymous.

Joplin Police Chief Richard Pearson says the app is a way to help resolve crimes in our community. “This will be incredibly helpful to our work and will allow citizens to share critical information, while keeping their identity hidden. People remain anonymous.”

Pearson noted that more than 2,000 communities nationwide are actively using it with good outcomes and have received a positive response from their citizens. “We know people want to do the right thing, but unfortunately, their situation may not allow them to do so. Tip411 can help with this,” said Pearson.

Officers receiving crime tip information cannot see the reporting person's identity, location, or IP address. If the person providing a tip so wishes, officers can also have a 2-way conversation with that person without revealing their identity.

“We decided to add this tool to our department because communication is key in all of our cases. This allows more information to be collected, without putting citizens at risk, and can help us do our jobs better. It’s a win-win for Joplin.”
