City of Joplin to hold inaugural 'State of the Community' event

CITY OF JOPLIN -- Join community leaders for the City of Joplin’s inaugural State of the Community event. We’re bringing together leaders and partners from across local government, business, education, and non-profit sectors – as well as any interested citizens - to reflect, connect, and look ahead.

When: Wednesday, January 14, 2026. 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available at 8 a.m. Program begins at 8:30 a.m.

Where: The Cornell Complex, located at 212 West 7th Street.

The program will feature presentations by Joplin Mayor Keenan Cortez and City Manager Nick Edwards. Guests will also hear updates from key partners, including the Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Jasper and Newton County Commissioners, Joplin Public Schools, and Downtown Joplin Alliance.

“The City has accomplished a lot in 2025, and we will provide an overview of the past year’s progress. We’ll also highlight some of the new projects, amenities, and ideas coming forward this year,” said Joplin Mayor Keenan Cortez. ”It’s an exciting time as the City and our partners are moving forward offering a bright future for our community.”

A limited number of tickets are still available for $25 per person until 8 a.m. Tuesday, January 13. They can be purchased online at www.joplinmo.org/sotc2026 . Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis until sold out. No refunds will be available.

For those unable to join us, presentations during the event will be recorded and posted following the event on the City’s website www.joplinmo.org . Videos shown during the event will also be posted later.
