U.S. House passes PERMIT Act, including Rep. Burlison’s Clarity Act
The House of Representatives today passed the Promoting Efficient Review for Modern Infrastructure Today (PERMIT) Act, a major permitting reform package that includes Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison’s Judicial Review Timeline Clarity Act.
The Clarity Act establishes a firm 60-day deadline to file legal challenges against permits issued under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
By preventing lawsuits from being filed months or even years after a project has already begun, the reform brings much-needed certainty to builders, local governments, energy producers, and agriculture.
“For too long, environmental activists have weaponized the courts to delay critical projects and drive up costs for our communities,” said Rep. Burlison.
“My reform puts a stop to these last-minute lawsuits. With a clear 60-day deadline, we can finally give project sponsors the confidence to build, grow, and move America forward. I’m proud to deliver this win as part of the PERMIT Act.”
The PERMIT Act now moves on to the U.S. Senate.
