Expanding the Joplin Industrial Park

Build it and businesses will come

The city of Joplin is getting ready to expand the industrial park on the southeast side of town by annexing land near the current location.

Mayor Keenan Cortez telling Newstalk KZRG:

“The local chamber of commerce does a fantastic job of attracting businesses to our community. However, we turn down a lot of business sometimes because we just don’t have the space. So we had to find more land that we could develop into an industrial park. And I believe once we get it up and going, once we get all the infrastructure in, curbing and guttering, it’ll fill in no time because we’ve got people all the time wanting to be in our community.”

Cortez went on to say: “We’re very convenient. We are north and south on I49. We are east and west on. On I44. So we’re conveniently located right in the middle of America and people want to be here, especially if they have some kind of distribution company.”

That 328-acre site is near the Prigmore Exit of I-44, which he says is perfect for truckers who want to go east or west…or even north and south with nearby I-49
