Jingle and Jam brings interactive music to community

Neosho Arts Council is holding a new interactive music event for area residents in celebration of Make Music Day Winter. Jingle and Jam: A Holiday Sing-Along, Play-Along Adventure will have participants exploring musical instruments while playing and singing along to seasonal music.

No prior music experience is required to take part, according to Cassie Carnahan, music education specialist and arts council board member, who will be leading the Jingle and Jam.

Jingle and Jam will take place on December 20 at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery. The come and go style event starts at 10:30am and ends at noon but drop in participants are welcome.

“Opportunities to experience making music with your own hands without prior training are rare. We are excited to bring this hands-on music event to the community,” said Sarah Serio, president of the Neosho Arts Council. The organization has a mission to grow appreciation and participation for the fine arts.

“All ages are welcome to join us,” Carnahan said. “The play-along involves recognizing colors and/or letters and can be a shared experience with a partner.”

Those taking part will be using instruments’ designed to be easy for people of all ages and musical abilities to pick up and play, fostering a sense of community and shared musical experience.

“Making music brings people together, across ages and experiences,” Carnahan added. Make Music Day Winter is intended to bring communities together to experience the joy of music even as cold weather sets in and the days get shorter.

This is the council’s first year taking part in the Make Music Day Winter celebration. It is a companion event to the June 21st Make Music Day, an international day of musical events, that the arts council has taken part in for the past three years.

It is designed for kids, families, and music lovers of all ages to experience the thrill of music together. Learn more at neoshoarts.net
