Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt supports reported plans to end visa program for post-graduate’s

(Missourinet) – Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt is calling on the Department of Homeland Security to review and possibly end the Optional Practical Training program for international students. 

The program allows student visa holders to work in the U.S. after graduation, but Schmitt argues it was created without congressional approval and now serves as a pipeline for cheap labor. 

He says it hurts American workers and distorts higher education by incentivizing universities to recruit more foreign students. 

Schmitt sent a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem expressing strong support for reported plans to overhaul or eliminate the program.
