Oklahoma Governor halts scheduled execution of Tremane Wood

OKLAHOMA CITY – Today, Thursday, Nov. 13, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has halted the scheduled execution of Tremane Laitron Wood, 46, which was to take place at 10 a.m. this morning.

By granting clemency, Gov. Stitt has followed the Pardon and Parole Board’s recommendation to commute Mr. Wood’s death sentence to life without parole.

Wood was sentenced to death for his role in the 2002 murder of Ronnie Wipf in Oklahoma City, although Wood did not kill Wipf.

In response to Gov. Stitt granting clemency to Wood, Dr. Elizabeth Overman, Oklahoma Commission to Abolish the Death Penalty Chair, made the following statement:

“This is a good turn of affairs in Oklahoma.  The possibility for justice and fairness still lives in our state.”
