Man hit by train in Allen County, Kansas; body found by railroad track

On November 12, 2025 at 7:53 a.m., Allen County Sheriff Deputies, along with personnel from Allen County Emergency Medical Services and the Kansas Highway Patrol were dispatched southeast of Mildred, Kansas for a report of a person being struck by a train.
Upon their arrival, a deceased person was found beside the railroad tracks.
While the incident continues to be investigated, the Allen County Sheriff’s office has released that a vehicle related to the deceased individual was found parked on 4000 Street, a gravel road 50 yards east of U.S. Highway 59 and 60 feet from the railroad tracks.
The preliminary findings are that the individual, identified as Dustin E. Vanatta of Humboldt, exited his vehicle, stepped between the rails, and was struck by a southbound Union Pacific train.
