Governor Kelly issues statement on Trump petitioning SCOTUS to deny food to hungry children

TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly issued the below statement in response to President Donald Trump petitioning the Supreme Court of the United States to deny food to Kansans.

"Today, in accordance with a court’s order and after receiving guidance from the USDA, Kansas sent full November SNAP benefits to all eligible Kansans,” Governor Laura Kelly said.

“These Kansans, most of them children, seniors or people with disabilities, were struggling to put food on their plates.

Why the President would petition the highest court to deny food to hungry children is beyond me. It does nothing to advance his political agenda. It does not hurt his perceived enemies. It only hurts our most vulnerable and our reputation around the globe.”

Governor Kelly and the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) will continue to provide updates to Kansans on the situation as they become available.
