Joplin Christmas Parade set for Dec. 2

This year's theme is "100 Years Then and Now"

JOPLIN, Mo. — Downtown Joplin will transform into a century-spanning winter wonderland on Tuesday, December 2, when the 55th Annual Joplin Christmas Parade rolls out under the theme “100 Years Then and Now,” marking Freeman Health System’s 100th anniversary.

The theme, unveiled yesterday, pays homage to the system’s 100 years of service since its founding in 1925. The parade is about reflecting on where the community has been and celebrating where it is going.

The evening spectacle will roll north along Main Street, starting at 15th Street and winding up at 2nd Street, illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights and the glow of festive entries. Expect a lineup of up to 75 floats, marching bands, equestrian units, and community groups—registration is already filling up fast. Organizers are encouraging creative takes on the theme: vintage replicas of early 20th-century ambulances alongside modern medical tech displays, horse-drawn carriages evoking Joplin’s mining-era roots paired with sleek electric vehicles, and holiday cheer infused with nods to the city’s resilient spirit post-2011 tornado.

For families staking out prime viewing spots along the route, the grandstand and judges’ table will anchor the action at 8th and Main. Parking restrictions kick in early— no vehicles allowed on Main Street after 4 p.m. on December 2, with accessible spots reserved at 8th and Main. The Joplin Police Department will lead the procession, with Santa Claus capping it off aboard a fire truck, ensuring a safe and magical close.
