Trail derailment over Turkey Creek on Thursday

A Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) freight train derailed late Thursday around 8:30 p.m. on a trestle bridge over Turkey Creek near North Main Street by Dover Hill. One railcar jumped the tracks. There were no reports of injuries, hazardous spills or bridge damage.

Joplin emergency crews secured the site, and CPKC reported a possible mechanical issue with the railcar’s wheels. The area was partially reopened by Friday morning, though rail service may take days to restore.
