More details have been released about a fatal DWI crash in Carthage, Missouri, Tuesday afternoon.

Police say 22-year-old Mark Anthony Mendez-Hernandez, of Southwest City, ran a stop sign and plowed into an SUV at the intersection of Oak and McGregor Streets.

Behind the wheel of that SUV was 76-year-old Gale Wade, of Joplin, who died at the scene.

His wife suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital in Springfield.

Mendez-Hernandez reportedly tried to flee on foot but was chased down by onlookers who were near the area when the crash occurred.

He now faces several charges and is being held without bond in the Jasper County Jail.
