The Naz opens new discipleship house to help address homelessness in Joplin

JOPLIN, Missouri – The Naz Homeless Shelter & Outreach, a ministry of Joplin First Church of the Nazarene, has officially purchased a home in Joplin that will soon open its doors to serve individuals transitioning out of homelessness and incarceration.
The new Naz Discipleship House will provide a safe, faith-based living environment where residents can rebuild their lives through structure, mentorship, and community.
This milestone follows The Naz’s recent expansion into a full-time daytime homeless center, now open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The center provides meals, mentorship, and a place of safety and support for Joplin’s unhoused community.
“We’ve seen incredible transformation already happening through our daytime shelter — men and women finding hope again, reconnecting with their families, and learning they matter,” said Pastor Shana.
“Now we’re taking the next step by opening a home where they can continue that journey in a stable, loving environment.” Residents of the new house will live there for six months to a year, receiving daily discipleship, life-skills coaching, and job-readiness support.
Each participant has completed a mentorship and discipleship program at The Naz, demonstrating readiness to make long-term life changes. Community support is urgently needed. Donations of food, clothing, bedding, bunk beds, and financial contributions help sustain the new home and The Naz’s ongoing outreach programs.
