Congressman Eric Burlison on shutdown and filibuster rule changes

Polls show growing frustration with Democrats about the government shutdown as more Americans understand the stakes and view their Democrat demands as unreasonable.

Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison noted this is a rare case where Republicans are not the usual targets for shutdown blame, altering typical political narratives.

“They know that what they’re asking for is ridiculous. So I think that they will be looking for some exit strategy. But this no Kings rally that’s happening this weekend, everyone knows that Schumer doesn’t want to have, you know, folded or compromised before this no Kings rally.”

This shift pressures Democrats to find an exit strategy, especially with upcoming events like the No Kings rally influencing timing and resolve.

At this time, the Senate is basically in a filibuster causing the government shutdown.

Congressman Eric Burlison told Newstalk KZRG, about the Senate filibuster rules that might need change:

“The original Senate operated in a way where they had to stand on the floor and actually speak, but today they just basically note that they’re in a filibuster, and therefore they don’t make these people actually work. And I think it’s probably a result of the fact that you have so many people in the Senate that are, you know, in their twilight years.”
