Freeman cancels plans to build southeast Kansas hospital
Freeman Health System is no longer moving forward with a project to build a hospital on the north side of Pittsburg, Kansas.
In a press release, the hospital says results of a comprehensive feasibility study revealed significant challenges that prevent them from moving forward “responsibly”.
Freeman says two years ago they were approached by community leaders due to a gap in quality healthcare services, but since that time, that gap has been filled.
“Due diligence is not a snapshot in time, it’s a continuous process,” said Matt Fry, Chief Executive Officer of Freeman Health System. “The conditions that existed two years ago no longer reflect the current reality.”
Freeman says the study considered multiple factors, including the “unpredictable impact of pending legislation such as the One Big Beautiful Bill and evolving challenges in rural healthcare.”
These variables, unknown at the start of the project, contributed to the final decision.
